The National Council of Justice (CNJ) has launched CriptoJud
New judicial system for blocking cryptoassets

Authors
The CriptoJud system, launched by the National Council of Justice (CNJ) during the 10th Ordinary Session of 2025, held on August 5 and presided over by Minister Luís Roberto Barroso, will facilitate the transmission and enforcement of court orders to locate a debtor’s assets, including enabling the seizure and freezing of crypto assets.
Through the CriptoJud system, it will be possible to centralize in a single electronic environment three main operations:
(i) the automated transmission of inquiry and asset-freezing orders to companies operating with cryptocurrencies and digital assets, along with the forwarding of their respective responses;
(ii) the custody of crypto assets in judicial accounts; and, in the future,
(iii) the financial settlement in national currency.
Before the creation of CriptoJud, the search for possible ownership of crypto assets in the debtor’s name required sending individual letters to each exchange, which made the procedure slow and often ineffective. With this new system, it will be possible to access all such information in a centralized and simultaneous manner, with full traceability, reducing response time and increasing the chances of locating assets.
In practice, CriptoJud constitutes an important tool in civil and tax enforcement actions, as it allows seizure and freezing orders for crypto assets to be executed with the same agility as existing tools such as SisbaJud (for bank accounts) and Renajud (for vehicles). The tool expands the range of mechanisms available to creditors to locate and reach the debtor’s assets, which enhances the enforcement of court decisions, helps combat fraud, and contributes to reducing the concealment of assets.
The CriptoJud system represents a significant advancement in the Judiciary’s ability to act quickly and accurately in a market that moves large sums and is growing in complexity every day.
The initiative increases the effectiveness of judicial decisions, reinforces transparency in the execution of measures involving digital assets, and protects the public interest by providing a unified and reliable channel for communication with the sector.
However, it should be noted that the system will only cover entities in the national crypto asset market. Therefore, crypto assets held in private wallets or through foreign entities will not be subject to seizure or freezing orders issued through the system.
So far, there has been no official release of all the tool’s operational details, which means that some specific aspects may still be adjusted or clarified. The information presented here reflects what has already been disclosed by the CNJ and aims to give the reader a consistent overview of how CriptoJud works.
According to the CNJ, the service will be gradually implemented in Brazilian courts through the Jus.br Portal, following an adoption schedule expected to be released on August 12.
