Authors
The article analyzes the impacts of gambling addiction, recognized as a disease by the WHO, on the betting market and the workplace. It highlights how regulation forced operators to adopt strict prevention mechanisms, but also how the lack of public policies shifted responsibilities to the private sector. In employment, effects range from absenteeism and productivity loss to internal fraud and social security absences. The CLT allows dismissal for habitual gambling, but the Labor Court has mitigated penalties when clinical evidence exists. The challenge is to balance treatment, prevention, and proportional accountability.
